Safety
Is it safe over video? What if she falls?
Safe when three things are true: physiotherapist screening first, batch small enough to actually watch (six), and a written protocol for the moment something goes wrong. If she falls, the coach stops the class, stays on camera, and alerts the physiotherapist and you at the same time. Her home address is on file — if it's cardiac or stroke-like, an ambulance is called immediately, we don't wait.
When is Vayayam NOT right?
Uninvestigated chest pain, a cardiac event or surgery in the last 3 months, BP above 180/110, stroke in the last 6 months, an unhealed fracture, joint replacement in the last 3 months, active cancer treatment without clearance, unwarned falls, advanced dementia, or a parent who doesn't want to do it. Our physiotherapist will tell you honestly on the call — usually one-to-one physiotherapy is the right route instead.
Can I just do this with YouTube?
For a healthy 45-year-old — maybe. For a parent with a knee that already hurts, a video can't see her knee collapsing inward on rep four, and it doesn't notice when she stops showing up in week three. That's the whole difference, and it's the only thing you're paying for.
Will she stick with it
She tells me everything is fine — I have no way to check.
That's normal, and it isn't her fault — nobody wants to worry their children. So we measure instead of asking. Attendance, balance, sit-to-stand, and one plain-English note from the coach — on WhatsApp, every Sunday. If she misses a session, you know that day.
She starts things. She stops by week three.
Usually because nobody noticed. Here, five other members and a coach notice — and the coach messages her the same day she's absent. Two in a row and a founder calls. Three and the physiotherapist re-assesses. That's the accountability that's genuinely hard to provide from another city.
My mother won't agree — and my siblings and I don't agree either.
Two normal situations, one answer: put everyone on the assessment call. Most parents say yes once someone asks them rather than about them. And when siblings hear the same three-paragraph summary at once, they usually land on the same page. We can also loop siblings into the Sunday report thread — no extra cost.
She's not good with technology.
Almost nobody is at first. Before day one we do a 30-minute setup call, one-to-one. We test Zoom on her device, mark the floor with tape, and set the phone height so the coach can see her whole body. After that she taps one link. No app, no login, no password.
Logistics & data
Why is there no monthly plan?
Nothing meaningful changes in a month, and monthly plans quietly invite everyone to quit in week three. Three months is the shortest commitment we can make an honest promise about. Not sure? The free assessment and free trial cost nothing.
I live abroad. Does the timing work?
Batches run 7 AM and 5 PM India time; the Sunday report reaches you wherever you are. Monthly 1:1 family sessions are scheduled around your timezone, not ours. A good share of our families are outside India.
Are classes recorded?
No. Not for training, not for a library, not ever. Several parents told us during research that being recorded was the one thing that would make them refuse — so it's a promise, not a setting.
What happens to her medical information?
Collected with written consent, stored with restricted access under India's DPDP Act 2023, seen only by people who need it. The coach sees the handover sheet — never the full medical history. You can withdraw consent and delete it any time. Coaches never advise on medication, diagnosis or treatment.
Twenty minutes. Not a payment.
Talk to our physiotherapist with your parent on the call. They will tell you honestly if Vayayam is not right, and where to look instead.
